January 6, 2023
GOOD NEWS!
On December 19, 2022, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Public and Indian Housing notified our agency that we have been awarded an additional ten (10) Mainstream Vouchers with an annual budget authority of $122,225.
These vouchers are tenant-based vouchers that assist non-elderly persons with disabilities and their families. These vouchers are part of the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program and follow the same regulations and program policies as the HACW's regular HCV program except that these vouchers assist a special population.
To be eligible for a Mainstream Voucher an applicant must be non-elderly persons (at least 18 and less than 62 years of age) who have disabilities and their families. The eligible household member may be any member of the household.
Preference will be given to Mainstream eligible applicants who are:
- Currently experiencing homelessness
- Previously experienced homelessness and currently a client in a permanent supportive housing or rapid rehousing program.
- At risk of experiencing homelessness
HACW must verify any preference claimed by an applicant. HACW will work with the Wake/Raleigh Continuum of Care, Coordinated Entry to verify any homeless preference.
HACW will review the existing pool of applicants on the HCV waiting list to determine if anyone meets the criteria for these new vouchers. Existing applicants who meet the criteria will be sent an update packet to begin the process of determining their eligibility for the program.
